I was born when people did not hesitate to use language that most people today would find jarring—Blunt and to the point rather than couched in words that are afraid of their shadows. Harsh, brutal, and unreserved are more appropriate descriptors of conversations from this time.
This was the state of the world in which I arrived. After enduring a punishing, complicated, and downright brutal delivery, my mum asked a nearby nurse if I was a boy or a girl.
The nurse replied,
‘You had a monster’.
I hold no ill will for the nurse who spoke to my mother that day, as my birth ‘defect’ created a shocking sight.
Besides, my mother used to say, ‘You lived up to that name every day.’
This site is my attempt to combine the social, physical, psychological, satirical—you name it—experiences I have had in hopes of bringing a laugh, heck, even a smile, information, or at least an alternate perspective to what it is to be a monster.
